Some Thoughts on Home Schooling

Published by rhonda at 5:00 am under Misc., Politics Edit This

On the heels of yesterday’s post:

Pros of Home Schooling

* Parents can control how their children receive educational information

* Parents can choose curriculum they feel best meets their child’s needs

* Rate at which material is presented can be adapted to each child’s needs

* Curriculum and lessons can incorporate religious instruction the parents wish to include

* Flexibility in the school day and school year for optimal learning, learning within the natural environment, family emergencies, family trips, and sickness

* Ability to focus on one, or just a few children at a time, in other words, a much better adult-student ratio

Cons of Homeschooling/Things to think about

* Children will likely need other avenues for social engagement. Like it or not, our society is highly dependent on lots of interaction with others.

* Parents educating who have little education or skills themselves to teach their children

* Parents not taking homeschooling seriously enough to do a thorough job.
