Home School Rights

Published by rhonda at 5:00 am under Misc., Politics Edit This

Did you catch this ruling? A few months back, California decided that home schooling, unless done by parents with teaching credentials, is illegal. The case is on appeal however, and the state Department of Education has no intentions of going after anyone in violation of this new ruling.

What can this mean for other states? Will home school rights be challenged by other courts? What will politicians do in regards to protect or destroy rights such as this?

In one of the first posts on the Schooldays blog, I mentioned how home schooling was a subject unto itself, for its own posting. With lots of parents frustrated by public schools–for a variety of reasons–I predict this topic will become more prominent.

What do you think about his ruling? Do you believe parents have a constitutional right to educate their own children?

Check back tomorrow on some thoughts from “The Teacher,” on this subject.
