Workin’ for a Livin’
…..So the song goes by Huey Lewis
The long break from school is a grand opportunity to make some money. After all, isn’t summer the classic time to try a new job when you’re still young?
Following are some summer jobs I recommend, but of course, please try and find something that suits you. It’s not always possible, but it can make the job a lot more fun.
* Nanny/babysitter: Lots of families out there are looking for reliable, quality care for their children. Many also can use a little help around the house with light chores. Nannies often fulfill both these roles for parents, and can pay well. I recommend starting with families you and your family know well. I also recommend the American Red Cross babysitting course if one is offered in your area.
* Work on a farm: Even if you are a city kid (especially if you are a city kid), this kind of work can be great experience, and it will keep you in shape!
* Food Industry: Server, waiter, even a short order cook. This kind of job help you gain some cooking and customer service experience and the importance of health and cleanliness/rules in handling food. It can also be a great way to earn tips
* Grocery store-Grocery stores are usually in need of dependable workers, and often pay pretty good money. Stocking, cashier, customer service, are just a few of the workers stores need. Besides, having this kind of experience will help you become a better shopper someday
* Internships: It’s true that many internships pay little, or nothing at all. But they can provide the best information with the ”inside scoop” on certain professions. If you are able, think about using a day or two a week to intern at a place that relates to a career in which you have an interest.
