Summer Learning: A Quick Guide

Published by rhonda at 5:00 am under Summer Edit This

All kinds of learning in a natural environment can take place in the summertime. Here is a quick list of topics you can build on to encourage fun and useful education for kids in the summertime.

Gardens

- Study growth and development of plants and flowers, keep a journal (words or pictures) on what the plants look like and how they change. Experience the work it takes to keep a garden.

Vacations

- Read up on places where you are traveling for a vacation, write or draw about where you went when the vacation is over and what you liked best. Look up the location on a map and make sure you could point it out to someone else.

School papers

- Go through all those papers you cleaned out of a desk the last week of school and decide what to toss and what to keep in a file or organize in a scrapbook

Play

- Get plenty of exercise and activity, build up those muscles and improve coordination. Learning to do this on a regular basis is as important as the book-learning.

Weather

Study how this time of year differs in various regions and countries, learn a little about the climate in other parts of the country and the world.
