An Example from History

Published by rhonda at 5:00 am under Graduate advice Edit This

James Carville and Mary Matalin were the commencement speakers this year at Tulane University. You gotta love a couple who appear to be polar opposites in the political realm, yet speak admiringly of one another, keep a good sense of humor, and stay together in spite of their differences.

Carville gave this short commencement speech with only a little advice, but it contains some good reminders to persevere despite failures, and in the midst of trials. His case in point is Abraham Lincoln, who withstood numerous disappointments and hardships but who went on to become one of the greatest presidents.

I think Lincoln must have either been an idealist, an optimist, or just plain stubborn: all of which I think are great qualities for anyone with enough determination to change a society for the better.
