The Neighborhood School
Welcome to the School Days blog at today.com! I am using my professional experience in the field of education, and my passion for children and schools, to discuss news, views, and commentary relating to schooling and education of children. What an opportunity!
Feel free to comment and/or ask questions or just let me know what you think. I am sure there will be some topics up for discussion (and maybe even a little healthy debate)!
Let’s start right off with a current event. In the region where I live, I have friends who may not be able to send their children to the neighborhood school because there are too many homes in the attendance area for the school. I am an advocate for families being able to send their kids to the neighborhood school, but I understand a building and staff can only hold so much.
To me, it seems there must be enough money from all of the development and population growth in our are to justify building another school close by, or expanding the existing one. I am certainly no accountant, but I do think this should be a priority for the city and the school district.
I know this must have happened in a number of places around our country. Has this happened where you live? What are your thoughts?
